E85 conversion: which gasoline connections to choose to avoid corrosion?

Switching to E85 is one of the best solutions for gaining power without blowing the fuel budget. More octane, a cooler mixture in the chambers, and a significant potential gain on turbo engines. But ethanol is not a harmless fuel for your supply system, its corrosive nature can attack the hoses, joints and especially the fittings which are not designed to withstand its chemical composition. The risk is multiple: leaks, rust in the circuit, and in the worst case, an engine that fails in the middle of a track session.

Before switching to E85, it is essential to check that each gasoline connection on your fuel line is compatible. And if you're going to seriously prepare for drifting, rallying or the circuit, you might as well install the right parts from the start.

Why does E85 attack your original fittings?

The ethanol contained in Superethanol E85 (up to 85% depending on the season) is hygroscopic: it absorbs ambient humidity. This water + alcohol mixture accelerates the oxidation of untreated metals and quickly degrades standard rubber. Uncoated brass fittings, low-end clamps and original hoses simply do not hold up over time. After a few months, you will find green deposits on your connections, hoses that soften and micro-leaks that appear without warning.

On a production engine, the consequences are annoying but on an advanced preparation with turbo, high flow injectors and reinforced pump, it is a direct mechanical risk.

Dash and PTFE fittings: what makes the difference on E85!

You know about anodized aluminum aviation fittings. What really matters for an E85 conversion is the choice of internal coating and associated hose. A classic Dash connector mounted on a stainless steel braided rubber hose will hold on an unleaded gasoline circuit, but the ethanol will end up attacking the rubber from the inside. It is for this reason that it is imperative to switch to PTFE compatible fuel hose fitting . PTFE is chemically inert to ethanol and its additives, which makes it the only material that is truly reliable in the long term for an E85 line.

The preferred combination: stainless steel braided PTFE hose + Dash PTFE rotating fittings. In size, the Dash 6 covers the majority of preparations up to 400-500 horsepower, the Dash 8 takes over for more flow-hungry configurations.

What elements should you complete for a complete E85 line?

The fuel connection alone is not enough. For reliable conversion, the entire line must be redesigned.

In particular, the pressure regulator must be E85 compatible: the Nuke Performance in Dash 6, 8 or 10, or the Deatschwerks DWR1000/2000, are safe bets which handle ethanol without problem.

For its part, the fuel pump must be sized to compensate for the excess flow required in E85 (around 30% more than in SP98). And each junction, from the tank to the injector rail, must be made of PTFE or a certified compatible material.

It is also on this type of complete conversion that the support of a real preparer makes the difference. And that's exactly how the Swapland.fr team approaches the subject: they don't just reference parts, they assemble and test them in the workshop on their own projects. The brands included in the catalogue, notably Nuke Performance and SL Racing for PTFE fittings, have been validated in real conditions before being offered. When they direct towards a Dash 6 or a Dash 8 for a given conversion, it is feedback, not the specification read on a technical sheet.

Don’t skimp on reliability.

A poorly connected E85 conversion is an engine on borrowed time. Fitting a good PTFE-compatible fuel connection across the entire line ensures you can drive with peace of mind, whether for a prepared daily or a car dedicated to the track.
